1st Trip to Kilkee 2010

E-mail Print PDF

Today Lough Derg Sub Aqua Club had its first club venture to Kilkee for 2010. The event was really well attended.

The reason for this exercise is to familiarise new trainees with a few things they will have to contend with while scuba diving.
  • Cold Water – getting splashed in the face by cold, salty, possibly rough water – its not always calm (unfortunately)
  • Using their semi dry suits (getting used to the buoyancy of the suit)
  • Breathing correctly
  • Finning correctly
  • Gauging correct weight
  • “Duck diving” to more depth that is available in the pool.
  • Getting on and off the boat correctly and safely and using the least amount of energy
The simple snorkel is an important piece of equipment because in rough conditions, the snorkel can allow you to rest and swim using the snorkel while exiting or while waiting to be picked up by a dive boat. Scuba divers use a snorkel not only as a safety device to float for extended periods of time while locating, or being located by, a boat; it is also used to swim to diving sites without using up precious air from the scuba tank.

2010 Group

Everybody did really well today. Thanks to all involved John Dunne for towing the boat, Mike Lyons the DO and everyone else. Hope to see you all again soon.

The book has been considerably updated with content standardised throughout. New courses and changes to older courses are now included.

Resize Photos

E-mail Print PDF

Some users were having difficulty uploading images to the Photo Gallery. This is because the company we use to host this website limits the size of files being uploaded to 2MB. Modern digital cameras take photos which are larger than this 2MB limit.

To circumvent this problem, I've added a facility which allows users to resize their photos so that they can be uploaded.

Log in and find the Resize Photos link in the User Menu. A brief explanation of the process can be found in Tutorials section.
